Linux

This is for information only:

Linux is a Unix-class operating system. The system evolved from other free Unix like Operating Systems. The original Linux kernel (heart of the Operating System) was created by Linus Torvalds (who at the time was studying at the Helsinki University). Mr. Torvalds posted it on the Internet and the things started to roll after that. Today, Linus Torvalds heads the team of hundreds of volunteer developers all over the world who continue to work on this ever evolving Operating System. Developed under the GNU General Public License, the source code for Linux is freely available to everyone.

Distributions:

There is an incredible number of various Linux distributions, which vary in the way of setup, installation and number of applications that make the system useful to the user. We use Debian, which we have been using since the spring of 1997.
